when the queen dies they select an infant to be fed only royal jelly, which causes her to develop differently from her peers, who are feed beans on toast. she then matures in a queen cell, capped with wax, until she is ready to emerge and one of the Buckingham Palace attendants cuts a hole in the wax around her head
The third major concept in Lain is that the contents of the Wired are not merely electrical information and data, but the images of the human collective subconscious, our collective information space, and our collective spiritual visions.
This is the bridge into the idea that Lain is about the emergence of the Noosphere and the manifestation of the virtual collective imagination into physical reality. The various pastiches about ghosts, MiB conspiracy theories, aliens, etc tap into this, but we've really seen where this can lead in recent years.
This is such a cool thread

A push to archive the early history of jungle and drum and bass in East London (funded by the National Lottery and backed up by local library/archive services).
Definitely worth doing, so much of the whole rave culture in London, East Anglia and SE England of the 90s to 2000s has effectively been erased due to a conservative backlash against the drugs and hedonism it involved, although its co-opting by lad culture and car culture in the 90s didn't help at all...
